Kona our sweet boy – you were our friend and companion in lifes journey. You came to me then a single lonely girl on Mother’s day 2000. Among all the other pups in the litter you just came over plopped down in my lap and took a nap. I knew you had to come home with me. You were not my first lab, but you were my first lab on my own – so we had lots to learn together over the years. We hiked, fished, camped, made new friends, and were best buddies on our own for the first six years of your life. You kept me safe and were always such a patient, kind and loving dog to me and other doggies you met. You never met another dog or person you didn’t greet with great happiness and joy on the trail or in our home. You taught me so much about how to be a good human, sometimes I swear you were a human.
In 2006 you met Lance for the first time and I knew right away that he was someone that you just loved immediately and respected. He wasn’t sure what to make of you at first, but quickly realized that you and I were like peanut butter and jelly and if he was to love your Momma he was going to have to love you too. I’ll never forget how you knew when he was coming over you’d get excited and wait for him at the door. Oh what fun we all had together. As you got older you slowed down but never lost the desire to be with us at all times. We enjoyed taking you to the local lakes to swim every night after work to relieve some of your arthritis pain. You never complained, and always had a grin and a little wag for us even when you didn’t feel your best. We are so thankful for the 12+ wonderful years with had with you and know that you are now in heaven romping, swimming and carrying on with your friends, Buddy, Ace and Montey – We love you Kona and will miss you dearly.
